SRA investigations can place a huge burden on investigated solicitors’ mental health. Our head of practice professional discipline Deepika Raino recently wrote an insightful article for the Law Society Gazette, drawing on her experience working with many clients under investigation to outline what must change in the SRA’s process to mediate the undue distress it is causing solicitors.

Long waiting times, a lack of responses, and an absence of recommendations for wellbeing support are all characteristic features of an SRA investigation. As Deepika notes, the SRA has lessons to learn from equivalent professional regulators such as the GMC, who have come far in taking mental health into consideration during their investigation processes over the past decade.
