Colin Bermingham’s conviction quashed: represented by Adkirk Law’s Rachel Adamson
Rachel Adamson of Adkirk Law represented Colin Bermingham, alongside Andrew Thomas KC of Lincoln House Chambers, in his successful appeal following the EURIBOR rate-rigging prosecution.
On 7 October 2026, the Court of Appeal quashed Mr Bermingham’s conviction, alongside those of four other former Barclays traders previously convicted in prosecutions concerning the LIBOR and EURIBOR benchmark interest rates.
The appeals followed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the convictions of Tom Hayes and Carlo Palombo, which identified errors in the legal directions given to juries. The Criminal Cases Review Commission subsequently referred the five further cases to the Court of Appeal.
Rachel Adamson and Andrew Thomas KC represented Mr Bermingham in that referral process and the subsequent appeal. Today’s ruling marks a significant outcome for Mr Bermingham after years spent challenging his conviction.
The case highlights the importance of accurate jury directions and the role of the appeals process in addressing unsafe convictions.
